They came to the UK, a completely unknown place for both them and their family. Additionally, Amina and Youssef’s parents cannot speak English, so they are understandably very protective over their children. Amina and Youssef have been left feeling anxious and uneasy in their surroundings.
It was clear that they desperately needed some time to enjoy being children and be away from external pressures and anxieties. Go Beyond became the answer to offer them their well-needed respite.
Despite feeling shy when they first arrived at Go Beyond, the warm welcome that they received from our Breaks Team helped them to quickly settle in. Amina and Youssef were determined to have a brilliant week and make the most of their time at Go Beyond, with the strength of these two young people evident throughout the week.
The Break Leaders were surprised to see how resilient both Amina and Youssef were throughout their time at Go Beyond. They both really did give it their all during their break, getting stuck in to all the activities and taking on new challenges.
A personal highlight for Amina was swimming in the sea. While initially nervous to get in as the waves rumbled against the shore, the support of her new friends and the Break Leaders encouraged Amina to be brave. She boldly ran into the water and quickly started to enjoy spending time in the sea. Amina’s day was well spent splashing around in the water and playing games on the beach late into the afternoon.
Youssef on the other hand, particularly loved visiting Newquay Zoo. He loved spending his time learning about the animals, endeavouring the Tarzan Trail and exploring the exhibits. Youssef’s favourite part proved to be visiting the penguins, where learning about them and seeing their funny waddles brought a lot of joy and wonder.
Amina and Youssef’s break has made a world of difference, with both feeling more confident and happier by the end of the week. We are so glad that their break gave them the chance to relax, have fun and let go of their worries. We want children like Amina and Youssef to know that they are amazing, strong and capable young people that deserve carefree experiences.
