Role: Break Leader (Seasonal)

Go Beyond breaks offer a chance for young people, 8 to 13 years old, to spend some quality time away from their normal challenging circumstances and the primary role of our Break Leaders is to offer support, guidance and motivation to ensure the best possible outcome for each young person.
Our Break Leaders provide positive, safe and relevant role models, while using the unique and special landscapes around our centres to provide memorable, social and fun experiences for young people, who sometimes just need a little time to build on their self-confidence and relationship skills. We run a range of our own activities but use external providers for the more adventurous activities such as rock climbing and watersports.
You will need a passion for working cooperatively with young people and an ability to engage and motivate to push through their fears and develop their sense of self-worth. The role is immersive and would suit someone already experienced in working with young people but wishing to work at a more impactful level. A great deal of our work is outside, so a love and knowledge of the outdoors would also be of great benefit.
Our breaks for up to 16 young people at time, run residentially Monday to Friday, with a rota system for staff, who normally work two weeks on, followed by a rest week. This role includes two overnight duties, within Monday to Thursday.
We use 9-seater vehicles at our centres and you must be over 21 years of age, held a full driving licence for at least a year and be willing to drive as part of the role. Passing a successful enhanced child workforce-based DBS check is also required and a current first aid certificate is also required.

As a Break Leader, you will work as part of an inspirational Break Team of both day and night residential staff who work directly with young people, creating a safe, nurturing and fun escape from their everyday lives. Your role will include delivering joyful, creative and adventurous activities, whilst also providing evening and overnight supervision.
This position is ideal for someone currently providing activities or support for groups and wants to take the next step towards more in-depth work with children and young people, helping them to realise their own potential and grow in confidence. As a Break Leader, you will work predominately at one of our centres. Some travel will be required for training purposes and to ensure consistent best practice. You will also be shift-style pattern, typically two residential weeks Monday to Friday with a rest week, averaging 38 hours per week.
This is a year-round, full time position which currently involves working Monday to Friday.
If successful in the vacancy, you will be required to attend training as required and visit each centre. Applicants must be over 21 and have held a full driving licence for at least one year. Strong demonstratable report writing skills and computer competency are essential.
Scope and Purpose:
Break Leaders aim to inspire, enthuse and guide groups of children throughout the break, promoting lasting positive memories and learning. They lead the breaks with a team of fellow Break Leaders in accordance with Go Beyond policies, procedures and mission statement. They ensure the children receive the best break possible by maintaining high quality breaks and ensuring that the health and welfare of the children is never compromised.
To succeed in this role, you must be able to demonstrate the ability:
- To ensure that the young people on the break have the most enjoyable and beneficial break possible

Personal Specification:
Essential
- Experience of working with children between the ages of 8 & 13 years, preferably in a residential setting in either a paid or voluntary capacity.

Scope and Purpose:
We’re a small charity that makes a huge difference to the lives of children and young people who face difficulties at home and in their everyday lives. Over the last 30 Years, over 20,000 children aged 8 to 13, from across the country have spent an unforgettably brilliant week at our residential centres in Cornwall and Derbyshire. Looking ahead, we want to welcome more than 1100 young people every year, while enabling new friendships and learning new skills. They spend the majority of the week outside, toasting marshmallows by the fireside, going orienteering and climbing, along with other more creative and group based activities. When the week is over, they go home, having made memories that last a lifetime.
As Centre Manager, you will be responsible for all aspects of the centre, including the property, grounds, vehicles and also manage the on-site team and volunteers, leading them to support and deliver an exceptional Go Beyond experience for children who come on our Breaks. These are residential breaks for small groups of children aged 8-13, who stay with us Monday to Friday during most weeks throughout the year.
You will ensure the centre is operated and maintained in accordance with all relevant legislation, making sure we are safe, secure, and compliant. We have ambitions to develop our site and you will help us with continual improvement of our breaks, facilities and our environmental and sustainability practices.
We aim to maximise the use of the centre and generate income. Your role will be pivotal in raising our profile in the local community, encouraging people to use our centre, supporting potential events, third-party use of our facilities and including the small, self-contained cottage and the main buildings, which we let.
You will lead the local team including; Team Leaders, Break Leaders, Maintenance, Housekeeping and Centre Cook along with volunteers (including groups of corporate volunteers who help us with on-site tasks). Ensuring not only the buildings, grounds and on-site activity areas are always at their best and ready to be enjoyed, but ensuring the centre is kept clean and welcoming for our visitors and that our children receive a healthy, nutritious meals during their stay. As a charity, we need to make sure this is all kept within budget.
You will need to be financially astute with a keen eye for detail and have practical and working knowledge of general building and estate management, HACCP, COSHH, Legionella, Asbestos, Fire Safety, Risk Assessment and Waste & contractor Management.
You will have a sound knowledge of managing a range of activities, being able to oversee the development of risk assessments and session plans, along with young people’s safeguarding. You will need an understanding of the importance of how activities can develop curiosity, confidence, resilience and communication skills in children and young people.
You will be a proactive, independent thinker able to manage themselves and lead a team to inspire and ensure Go Beyond provide the best opportunities to young people whilst they are visiting our centres.
Key responsibilities
Operations:
- Responsible for assessing risks, ensuring Health & Safety compliance, asset management, planning, and delivering action plans and regularly reviewing these.
- Responsible for ensuring all contractors are fully inducted and follow the site safeguarding protocol.
- Responsible for Contract management including reviews and renewals.
- To manage the onsite Housekeeping, Maintenance, Catering personnel and Team Leaders including; managing performance, target setting, planning staff training needs, cascading operational objectives, and managing leave and absences.
- Develop, implement and review the Land Management and Centre Management plans.
- Responsible for the management and maintenance of all resources assigned to the centre, including site security, buildings, vehicles, land and equipment and ensuring they are maintained and fit for purpose, replaced as required and set out in the management plan.
- Maintain GDPR and other legal, regulatory and compliance records and planning and oversight of servicing, maintenance and regulatory safety checks.
- To manage resources in a cost-effective manner and improve sustainability in all aspects of our work, including reducing energy, improving recycling, and harvesting rainwater.
- Manage and liaise with customers and agents for lettings (Farmhouse and Cottage) providing assistance as required.
Breaks:
- Accountable for the safety and welfare of the staff, children and young people, including the overseeing of risk assessments and session plans.
- Deputy Safeguarding lead.
- Responsible for defining the strategic growth and development of the centre delivery programme.
- Produce centre based quarterly reports for SLT regarding H&S, Incidents and accidents, Centre and Land development projects including those completed by Corporate Volunteers

- Develop new and existing relationships with the local community and partner agencies e.g. youth organisations.
- Ability to deputise for Operations Director and/or Director of Development and Sustainability as required.

In this varied and exciting role, you will take ownership of Go Beyond’s digital channels, helping to manage social media, e-newsletters, the website, and other online activity, while also providing support across general fundraising and administrative tasks as needed. You will also help act as a first point of contact for supporters getting in touch by phone or email; while call volumes are low, this is a shared responsibility within the team.
This is the ideal position for someone confident using digital tools who wants to make a tangible impact for an ambitious children’s charity. You will join a small but mighty Fundraising and Communications Team that is driven, friendly, and collaborative.
Working closely with the Supporter Engagement and Fundraising Manager, you will be a key member of the Supporter Care team, helping to deliver our ambitious fundraising strategy and ensuring effective communication with supporters across all channels. You will play an important role in managing and enhancing the supporter journey for all supporters, ensuring their experience is positive, consistent, and engaging at every touchpoint.
Key responsibilities:
Digital Fundraising and Marketing:
- Oversee the day-to-day running of Go Beyond’s social media accounts, creating and posting content with the wider team, responding to inquiries, and ensuring all channels are maintained, effective and engaging.
- Manage the charity’s paid digital campaigns across channels, including advertising, budget monitoring, targeting, and tracking ROI.
- Assist with Go Beyond’s e-newsletter programme, help manage audiences and journeys, create content, suggest improvements, and support subscriber growth.
- Work with the wider Fundraising and Communications Team to maintain and manage Go Beyond’s website, including content creation, improving user experience, and maintaining functionality. Optimise all website content for SEO and perform ongoing keyword research.
- Manage Go Beyond’s Google Ads account, creating and monitoring campaigns to ensure the charity is making the most of PPC opportunities.
- Use analytics tools to track digital activity and provide suggestions for improvements.
Fundraising and Supporter Care:
- An important element of this role is to support wider fundraising activities, including helping with the supporter database and systems, contributing to general fundraising tasks, and assisting other members of the fundraising team with their projects as required
- Undertake other fundraising, or administrative duties as required by the charity including answering the telephone and helping to monitor the Go Beyond Info email box and respond to requests from individuals and organisations
- Assist with acknowledgement and stewardship of donations, ensuring timely and personalised thank-yous and recognising supporter contributions.
- Assist with fundraising campaigns, donor events, and appeals, working closely with the wider team to maximise engagement and income.
- Work with the finance team to ensure donations, direct debit payments, and gift aid declarations are processed and recorded accurately.
