A moment that mattered
Beyond the Break is a community for adults who attended a Go Beyond break as a child and would like to help us understand the lasting impact those experiences can have.
Since 1992, more than 22,000 children and young carers have attended a Go Beyond break. If you came on a break before 2020, you may remember us as CHICKS.
For many children, a Go Beyond break lasts only a few days. Yet within that time, something important can happen. A child might experience a sense of freedom, build confidence, make new friends, or simply feel safe and supported.
Years later, we want to understand what happened next.
Did those few days make a difference? Did they influence your confidence, wellbeing, relationships, or outlook on life? What memories have stayed with you?
By reconnecting with former beneficiaries, we hope to build a clearer picture of the long term impact of our work. The insights shared through Beyond the Break will help us shape and strengthen future breaks for children facing challenges today.
Whether your memories are vivid or vague, positive or complex, your experience matters.
Who can join?
Beyond the Break is open to anyone aged 18 or over who attended a Go Beyond or CHICKS break as a child.
You do not need to remember every detail of your break, and there is no expectation that you share your story publicly.
What does being part of Beyond the Break involve?
As a member of the Beyond the Break community, you can choose how involved you would like to be.
Opportunities include:
- Taking part in our long term impact survey
- Receiving updates about our research findings and how your experiences are helping shape future breaks
- Joining our private Beyond the Break Facebook community
- Being invited to our centres, where you can reconnect with the charity and hear about our work today
- Contributing ideas and feedback that will help improve future breaks for children and young carers
There is no obligation to take part in every opportunity. You can engage as much or as little as feels right for you.
