Our Coastal Centre, in partnership with Felicity from ‘RE:Create’ and the ‘Covid and Beyond’ project, ran Bug Hotel workshops for the young people who attended one of our breaks this week. RE:Create provide workshops for local young people and families to re-purpose everyday discarded objects into new and exciting things!
When creating their bug hotels, the children have free roam of our arts and crafts barn. From glitter to paints, googly eyes to coloured string, they make the snazziest bug hotels you’ve ever seen! The children love having the creative freedom to use their imagination and create a design that is unique to them.
Once the children design and create their bug hotels, the team take them on a foraging expedition around the centre to collect natural resources to make the little creatures feel right at home! The children love exploring the site and have their own ‘mini treasure hunt’ for the natural resources they needed.
This activity is one of the children’s favourites throughout the week, they’re always so excited to take their bug hotels away with them to pop them in their gardens at home or at school! Jamie*, one of the children at our Centre this week said “thank you so much for having me, I had such an incredible time!”
Thank you to Felicity from RE:Create, and the team at our Coastal Centre, for helping the children make new homes for their crawly creature friends.
