This Autumn we are challenging fundraisers to take on two nail biting new fundraising challenges…in their pyjamas!

The first event challenges courageous climbers to scale the rigging of London’s iconic Cutty Sark on Saturday 7 October, while the second invites brave fundraisers to complete England’s fastest zip wire above the Eden Project in Cornwall on the following Saturday 14 October.

Both events are part of our PJ Day fundraising campaign, which invites people to hold their own PJ Day at work, school or home this Autumn and raise money to give children facing serious challenges a week-long break at our centres in Cornwall or Derbyshire.

Business Development Manager for Go Beyond in Cornwall, Tamsyn Howes, said: “Every week the children who come to our centres for breaks are challenged to overcome their fears and nerves for a week they’ll remember for a lifetime, so what better than challenging our supporters to do the same thing?”

There are 50 places available for the Eden Project Zip Wire and 72 for the Cutty Sark Rig Climb, so the Go Beyond team is urging people to book their places quickly, and then get fundraising!

Vanessa Fairfax-Woods, also a Business Development Manager at Go Beyond, explained: “Each of our new events has a minimal registration fee to cover the cost of putting on the event. £52 for the Cutty Sark Rig Climb and £40 for the Eden Project Zip Wire.

“Once registered, we’re asking all those who take part to raise a minimum of £100 to help children have a Go Beyond break.

“Booking is essential so gather your nerves, book your place and we’ll be in touch with everything else you need!”

So far this year Go Beyond, which changed its name from CHICKS in 2020, has given 469 children who have been bereaved, abused or bullied, who are living in poverty or caring for loved ones the chance to escape their worries and pressures on breaks at its Cornwall and Derbyshire centres.

Sarah Gill, Deputy Headteacher at a primary school in Chester which has referred children for breaks at the charity, said: “I am in a very privileged position of seeing the impact of these breaks – it lasts years!”

Vanessa added: “This year we need to raise £1.7million to continue providing our services. We rely 100% on the generosity of supporters to raise these funds, so all those who sign up to take part in our new challenge events will be directly helping a child isolated by the challenges they face at home to join the Go Beyond family.”
