Grow your seeds

All of the sunflower seeds were kindly donated for you to grow at home by Chiltern Seeds and Potters Nursery.

Sunflower seeds growing instructions

The sunflower seeds are a mix of: Helianthus Annuus Sunrich Gold, Helianthus Annuus Valentine Sunflower, Helianthus Annuus Moonshine Sunflower and Helianthus Annuus Uniflorus Giganteus Sunflower.

Sow directly where they are to flower.  Sow 15mm deep into finely prepared soil which has been raked to a fine tilth.  Sow 2 seeds together every 45cm.  Seedlings appear in 14-21 days.  When large enough to handle thin out the weaker of the two plants, replant elsewhere if required.  Water well until established.  Can be started early indoors, sow into individual pots 15mm deep, place pots in a cold frame or greenhouse.  Keep moist.  Acclimatise and plant out after danger of frost has passed.
