Why change?
When we began, Country Holidays for Inner City Kids was the perfect name, but 30 years on our service has grown and changed. Our support is now available to children and young people who face a range of serious challenges as well as those who live in inner cities. Our holidays are now called respite breaks and CHICKS has been a challenging name to manage online. On top of that, the children who attend our breaks are aged 8 to 13. Many want to be treated as teenagers and young adults. We want our name to be something they are proud to say, proud to be associated with and proud to remember.
The name
For many years, teams of CHICKS staff have considered possible alternative names. To reach the name Go Beyond we re-wrote our mission and vision as a charity, re-imagined our values and chose a name that suited those. Our vision is to inspire all young people we meet to go beyond anything that stands between them and their brightest future. We hope that Go Beyond captures that sentiment in your hearts and minds as much as ours.
Our new strapline
Our breaks make a lasting difference to children’s lives, giving memories that last a lifetime, hope and the belief that anything is possible. Shantelle from Plymouth came to us as a child and said: “My breaks made me realise that I mattered more than I realised, they made me believe in myself, more than I ever thought I could.” Our hope is for every child who attends a Go Beyond break to go home inspired by what the world can off them and what they, in turn, can offer the world.
New look
Our new, positive sunshine symbol communicates warmth, nature and positivity. Its rising suggests the beginning of a new day, and the reassurance that the sun will come up tomorrow, no matter how difficult life is. Each of the patterns you see around it is inspired by one of the four elements that each Go Beyond break is made up of: adventure, relaxation, creativity and imagination. You’ll see them twisting up and around our sunshine symbol in a positive and dynamic movement.

Your questions answered
Are you still providing country holidays for inner city kids?
Yes. But we are doing more than that too; giving children and young people from inner cities a break in the countryside, as well as those facing a wider range of serious challenges in their young lives.
Has CHICKS merged with or been bought by another charity?
No, we are the same charity, run by the same people, with the same cause at our heart. It is purely the way we tell our story that is changing.
Has this been a big investment for the charity?
The work to change our name has taken place gradually over a number of years and the replacement of many of our materials will take place over time, as and when is needed. We have kept costs to a minimum at every opportunity, employing the services of volunteers and professionals offering their time pro-bono wherever and whenever possible. We are incredibly grateful to have worked with a fantastic team who have given so much to us free of charge so willingly. Our hope is that with a strong new brand that is fit for the future our charity will grow and thrive.
Will I need to change anything with my bank?
Our bank details will be the same so you will not need to change your standing order. If you pay by direct debit you will notice that your statement will now say Go Beyond. Our bank will still accept cheques made out to CHICKS for the time being.
I am currently fundraising for CHICKS, do I need to change what I have done?
No you do not have to change anything right now. But for the next fundraiser you organise we hope to have lots of Go Beyond materials to send you to support your efforts.
