Role: Break Leader 

Salary:  £25,570.00

Responsible to: Team Leaders – Daleside Centre 

As a  Break Leader, you will work as part of an inspirational Breaks Team of both day and night residential staff who work directly with young people, creating a safe, nurturing and fun escape from their everyday lives. Your role will include delivering joyful, creative and adventurous activities, whilst also providing evening and some overnight supervision, with normally two overnights per week (Monday to Thursday nights). 

Ideally, you will have experience of providing activities or support for groups of young people and be keen to help them realise their own potential and grow in confidence throughout the week. 

For this  role you will work at our Daleside Centre and will have a week  of shadowing and mandatory training before taking up the full responsibilities of the role. We work as a team, so there will be help and support where it is needed. You will be working a shift-style pattern, typically delivering two residential weeks Monday to Friday, followed by a rest week, averaging 38 hours per week over the three weeks. 

Applicants must be over 21 at the time of employment, have held a full driving licence for at least one year and ideally hold a current first aid certificate. Strong demonstratable report writing skills and computer competency are essential. 

Scope and Purpose: 

Break Leaders aim to inspire, enthuse and guide groups of children throughout the break, promoting lasting positive memories and learning. They lead the breaks with a team of fellow Break Leaders in accordance with Go Beyond policies, procedures and mission statement. They ensure the children receive the best break possible by maintaining high quality delivery and ensuring that the health and welfare of the children is never compromised. 

To succeed in this role, you must be able to demonstrate the ability: 

  • To ensure that the young people on the break have the most enjoyable and beneficial break possible. 
  • To be responsible for the safety and welfare of young people and volunteers whilst on break. 
  • To prepare and deliver a week of varied activities based around the needs and interests of the young people on break. 
  • To be a responsible role model to the young people attending our breaks. 
  • To act towards the young people with understanding, care and positive enthusiasm at all times. 
  • Completing photographic compilations, certificates and diaries in preparation for the young people. 
  • To maintain and take responsibility for a petty cash float each week, preparing a statement for the finance team. 
  • To complete behavioural and incident reports as required. 
  • To participate and complete any necessary training. 
  • To identify and report any safeguarding issues that may occur. 
  • To be available to attend staff meetings, hold debriefs and discussions. 
  • To undertake, oversee or delegate other non-specific tasks/responsibilities deemed necessary to ensure the smooth, legal and efficient running of the breaks. 

Personal Specification: 

Essential 

  • Experience of working with children between the ages of 8 & 13 years, preferably in a residential setting in either a paid or voluntary capacity. 
  • Must be aged 21 or over and hold a Full Drivers Licence for a minimum of 1 year to comply with our vehicle insurance requirements. The post includes some driving of young people and adults in 9-seater vehicles. 
  • Hold a current first aid certificate. 
  • Possess the ability to apply sound, mature judgement particularly when dealing with challenging or sensitive situations. 
  • Good interpersonal skills and a team spirit, with the ability to lead, taking decisions when required with care and positive enthusiasm. 
  • Excellent communicator, both written and oral, and able to communicate effectively with a broad range of people. 
  • Experience of and enthusiasm for a range of activities such as climbing, water sports, team challenges, sports and arts & crafts. 
  • Availability and willingness to work in a residential setting, including evenings and overnights on a rota basis. 
  • Reasonable computer skills with the ability to use standard MS Office software. 
  • Pass an enhanced DBS check (Disclosure and Barring Service). This will be paid for by Go Beyond. 
  • To understand and appreciate the ethos and operations of Go Beyond. 

Desirable 

  • The ability to cope with unexpected occurrences and emotional concerns. 
  • Understanding of the role of volunteers and how they can benefit the charity. 
  • Experience of report writing. 
  • Experience of creating and following risk assessments. 
  • Knowledge of child protection issues and practices. 
  • Volunteering experience. 
  • Professional qualifications relevant to the role. 

General Duties: 

  • To be an active and enthusiastic member of the team. 
  • To work unsocial hours, including evenings, weekends and stay away from home overnight as and when required. 
  • To undertake any other tasks as required and directed. 
  • To promote Go Beyond in a positive light to volunteers and the general public. 
  • Continue to develop the knowledge and skills required to fulfil the responsibilities of the position. 
  • To follow procedures which maintain GDPR compliance.

 General Health & Safety Duties: 

  • To undertake regular risk assessments and take any necessary action to avoid potential health and safety hazards. 
  • Having read Go Beyond’s Health and Safety Policy, ensure compliance at all times including accident reporting procedures; fire drills and first aid facilities. 
  • To ensure safe transport for the young people, staff, and volunteers at all times.

Commitment to Safeguarding Children: 

  • Everyone who works at Go Beyond has the responsibility to promote the safeguarding and welfare of children. 
  • To ensure compliance to the charity’s policy and procedures regarding Child Safeguarding. 
  • To become aware of the signs and symptoms of abuse by attending relevant courses. 
  • To report all causes for concern to the Designated Safeguarding Lead or their deputy. 
  • To carry out risk assessments that include safeguarding measures for any activities.

Break Leader- Residential Support Worker – Daleside Centre

 

Role: Maintenance Person

Location: Daleside Centre, Ashbourne, Derbyshire

Salary: £12.97 per hour

Responsible to: Centre Manager

Hours: 28 hours per week, across an agreed 4 days per week between Monday to Friday.

Responsible for: 

The general maintenance and upkeep of our Daleside Centre. This is a varied, hands on and physical role which requires a flexible and pragmatic approach to work and an ability to work on own initiative.

To maintain the day-to-day functionality, appearance and safety of the centre to ensure our facilities provide the best possible experience for the children attending a Go Beyond Break.

This role is suitable for someone who…

Has previous experience of maintenance and DIY and is a practical problem solver who likes to be hands on fixing, repairing and maintaining things and taking a pride in their work.

Understands the importance of safe practice and health and safety.

Enjoys working as part of a team and can work in a busy, time pressured environment.
