We are thrilled to announce that Westland Horticulture has selected our Coastal Centre in Cornwall to receive a charitable donation from its New Horizon Fund.

Westland believes everyone deserves to enjoy an outdoor space, and that access to a garden area provides a host of benefits to both physical and mental wellbeing. The Westland New Horizon Fund is supporting community gardening projects throughout the UK and Ireland during 2024, allowing more people the opportunity to get closer to nature.

Entries to the New Horizon Fund are judged throughout the year to select deserving winners, the first of which was judged by TV gardening personality, Adam Frost, who selected Go Beyond, among others. Adam commented: “The work that the team do at Go Beyond to give vulnerable children the opportunity to build treasured memories really stood out to me as a deserving winner of the Westland New Horizon Fund.

“The Coastal Centre has 10 acres of land, including vegetable patches, that give children the opportunity to really engage with gardening and enjoy the empowerment that comes from nurturing plants, and I hope the donation of gardening goodies they receive from Westland can make a real impact on their space.”

Sharon Retallick, Manager of Go Beyond’s Coastal Centre in Cornwall, added: “Our huge thanks go to Adam Frost and the Westland New Horizon Fund for awarding us this wonderful donation.

Every child who attends a Go Beyond break is given the chance to explore and have adventures in the outdoors. A big part of that is spending time in our gardens; planting seeds, harvesting what we’ve grown, watching the birds, and even using what’s been grown to cook that night’s dinner!

Our new gardening goodies will bring such joy to the young people, and we are so very grateful. All our breaks are provided for children completely free of charge and, as a small charity, 100% of our funding comes from the generosity of our supporters, so our huge thanks and gratitude to go to all those involved in this decision.”

Helen Amos, Head of Category, at Westland, added: “The New Horizon Fund set out to support community gardening projects, and we’re excited to see Go Beyond’s outdoor space thrive and allow the children the opportunity to engage with nature.

“Our team have created a bundle of gardening goodies that will be a real benefit to the space, including seeds, compost, propagation hardware, plant feeds, tools, and bird feed. We can’t wait to see the Go Beyond garden flourish.”
