Where you will be staying?
You’re in for a treat! Each of our centres is decked out with the ultimate in fun and games! Head outside to our Sports Barn for ball games, trampolines and giant Jenga or to our chill lounge for movie nights and board games.
We also have an Arts and Crafts Barn where your imagination can go wild making, creating and drawing AND a Games Room with football tables, table tennis and pool – could you be our new pool champion?! You’ll sleep in one of our cosy bedrooms alongside other children on your break. Our team will be nearby throughout the night if you need anything.
What’s for dinner?
If you’re anything like us you might be wondering what you’re going to do without your favourite snacks for a whole week! Well don’t worry. We have an on-site chef who will be making you the best meals to enjoy (and yes, they sometimes come with pudding!) We’ll make sure we know about foods you can or can’t eat so you won’t have to worry about those while you’re with us.
What if you miss home?
It’s totally normal to feel nervous about leaving home for a week and being somewhere new with new people. We get that and we’re here to help. If at any point you want to speak to someone from home that’s totally fine and we’ll make it happen – but we reckon by the time you’re here you’ll be having way too much fun to miss home too much!
What will you get up to?
We’ll have lots of fun activities planned for when you arrive. Some of them you’ll do at our Centres and others might be a short walk or minibus ride away (we’ll have a word with the driver and make sure we can get your favourite tunes to sing along to on the bus!)
Some of the activities you might like to look forward to when on a residential break include things like rock climbing, surfing, baking and toasting marshmallows around the campfire (don’t let anyone tell you that’s not a real activity).
If you’re feeling nervous or worried about any of the activities we’ll never pressure you into them and will always understand. There’ll be lots of different things to try, but you won’t have to do everything. If there’s something you’re unsure about, just tell one of the team.. But we also know when you conquer them…you’ll be proud of yourself forever!
Got a question or feeling worried?
If there’s anything else you’re at all worried or nervous about before you arrive please let us know. It is our job to make sure you have the best week and make memories you’ll remember forever. You can call our team anytime between 8.30-5pm on Mondays – Fridays or email [email protected].
For Parents & Carers
Helping your child get ready for their Go Beyond break
We know that sending your child away on a residential break can feel like a big step. Our Parents & Carers Guide has everything you need to help prepare for their stay, including what to pack, medication, dietary requirements, keeping in touch and other practical information.
Join one of our online information sessions
A few weeks before your child or young person is due to come on their break, you’ll receive an invitation to an online information session, with a link to join from home.
It’s a chance to:
- Meet some of the Go Beyond team who will be looking after your child
- Find out a little more about what happens on a break
- Hear about things like bedrooms, food, activities and keeping in touch
- Ask any questions you might have
Your child or young person is very welcome to join too. In fact, seeing some friendly faces and knowing a little more about what to expect can be a great way to help them feel ready for their break.
Want a sneak peek? Click here to see some of the things we’ll talk about in the session.
What if my child is feeling anxious or doesn’t want to come?
It’s completely normal for children and young people to feel nervous about coming away, even if they were really excited when they first heard about their break.
They might worry about being away from home, not knowing anyone, sharing a room, the food, what activities they’ll have to do – or simply not knowing what to expect.
Try not to worry. Please talk to us.
Our team is used to helping children settle in and will take the time to get to know your child and understand what they need to feel comfortable.
It can help to talk positively about the break beforehand, look through this page together and remind them that they don’t have to be brilliant at anything or join in with everything. Their break is about having new experiences, making friends, having fun and having the space to just be themselves.
If your child is particularly worried or says they don’t want to come, please don’t cancel their place before speaking to us. Get in touch with the team and we can talk through their worries with you and see what we can do to help.
A few things you can do before their break
Talk about what they’re looking forward to, but give them space to tell you what they’re worried about too. Look at the photos of the centre together, talk through what they’ll be taking with them and encourage them to think about any questions they’d like to ask at the information session.
And remember – you can ask us questions too. No question is too small if it helps you or your child feel more comfortable about their break.
